Japan Hatoyama Cabinet Approval Rating Falls To 20.7% -Kyodo APRIL 29, 2010, 3:24 A.M. ET
TOKYO (Dow Jones)--The approval rating for Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama's cabinet fell to 20.7%, down
12.3 percentage points from the previous survey on April 3 and 4, a Kyodo News survey showed Thursday.
According to the telephone poll conducted Wednesday and Thursday, 54.4% of the respondents said Hatoyama should
step down if he fails to resolve the issue of relocating the U.S. Marines' Futemma Air Station in Okinawa Prefecture
by the end of May, the self-imposed deadline, Kyodo reported.
The survey also found that 83.8% said Ichiro Ozawa, secretary general of Hatoyama's Democratic Party of Japan, should
leave his post. An independent judicial panel decided earlier this week that Ozawa merits indictment over his fund
management body's alleged false reporting of political funds in 2004 and 2005.
